The Photography of Aldo and Marirosa Ballo

In the second half of the 20th century, Italian design attained worldwide recognition. The Milanese photographers Aldo Ballo and Marirosa Toscani Ballo played a considerable part in this success and their images have influenced our perception of Italian Design. Presenting outstanding objects together with the photographic interpretations of the Ballos, the exhibition formulates this story as a discourse about empathy and interpretation, and about the signs of the times and their transmission into the future – from Albini, Aulenti, Bellini and Castiglioni to Colombo, Mendini, Pesce and Ponti, to Sarfatti, Sottsass und Superstudio.

Voyage en capitale | Louis Vuitton & Paris

«The priority for this scenography was above all to showcase the beauty and rarity of the pieces exhibited. I thus created a light, all-white, transparent setting for them, to accompany Paris and Louis Vuitton’s parallel histories.
The itinerary of discovery is punctuated with glimpses into history and memorable events, which accompany us on a journey through the centuries that offers the visitor a highly graphic experience.
We enter the exhibition through a Vuitton trunk, then pass under a giant Monogram flower; we find ourselves on a cruise liner in 1920 and revisit Eiffel Tower as if we were the first visitor..»

John Pawson, Plain Space | Design Museum

London Design Museum dedicates to John Pawson, famous minimalist British architect, a really interesting exhibition curated by the architect himself from 22/09/2010 to 30/01/2011.

Here you can find a video by John Pawson in which he takes a tour of the exhibition and explains details about the exhibition project.

To better understand the project, this plan can guide us through the exhibition. At the heart of the exhibition is a site-specific, full-sized space designed by Pawson to offer a direct and immersive experience of his work: a white vaulted room furnished by two long wooden benches with a panel of white muslin at one end and a white light at the entrance.

Around the installation, the visitor can better comprehend Pawson’s work through photography, film, sketches, study models, prototypes dotted around on plinths and tables. Actual architectural elements in stone, bronze, wood and metal taken from a range of buildings leads the visitor to his sensitive use of materials, to offer a direct experience of his work.

More behind-the-scenes information about the exhibition on Pawson’s Plain Space blog, a blog set by the life of the exhibition.
